Blue Scrumpy left this review about Walkabout
This bar enjoys a prime location overlooking the river that runs through the centre of Chelmsford.
If you've been to a Walkabout before, you'll know what to expect. It's loud, full of youngsters and expensive (£8 for a half of cider and 2 soft drinks).
The full keg range was Fosters, Strongbow, Strongbow Dark Fruit, Guinness, Heineken, Budweiser, Carling, Little Creatures Pale Ale, Blue Moon, Rekorderlig Strawberry & Lime, Coors and some kind of BrewDog beer.
The single live Premier League football match started whilst we were in and some of the patrons started to shout at the TV screen. I never quite understand this practice, given the screen will offer no response. Why not actually go to the game if you want to influence it?!
Others were there for food, cocktails and the like. Wetherspoon's have a lot to answer for, but I'd much prefer one of their branches to this benign tat.

Aqualung . left this review about Thomas Mildmay (Lloyds No 1)
Due to close Sunday 28th August and reopen as a Walkabout. I can't wait!
Review May 2014
This is a Lloyds No 1 set in a modern glass fronted riverside building. It is spread over two floors, I stuck with the ground floor.
It had very little going for it other than it's the cheapest Spoons I have visited (£1.90 for a standard guest and £2.05 for a premium). The beer selection on the ground floor was pretty shocking. The five pumps had London Pride, Doom Bore, Banks's Cereal Thriller, Ringwood Old Thumper and Adnam's Broadside. I went for the Cereal Thriller which was in good nick but not very exciting.

The ale selection doesn't seem to have improved significantly since the previous reviewer's visit, with just London Pride; Darkstar Titanic; Old Hooky; and Maximus (apparently from the Maximus Brewery) available. By many standards this wouldn't be bad, but for a large 'spoons it is a bit disappointing. The prices are still just as competetive though, with the Old Hooky at £1.90 a pint, and the Maximus (a stonking 6% ale) at only £2.35 a pint. The usual reasonably priced pub grub is available. Being a Sunday lunchtime I had the roast beef lunch - £6+ including a pint of any real ale.
This looks like a modern build glass and steel establishment, right by a walkway next to the River Chelmer in the centre of town. I was told that it used to house the Gray's Brewery. Downstairs it's very typical of the brand, but it does have an upstairs balcony room (being used for a private party when I was in) with a bit more seating. The main toilets are upstairs, although there is an accessible (disabled) toilet downstairs.
This pub is ecactly what you would expect from a Lloyds No 1/'spoons. A winning formula had it packed out at lunchtime last Sunday.
