This is a detached GBG pub and eatery, with a patio area. This double gabled place takes its name from the animal pound, which was next to the inn, but has become incorporated within it as it expanded (circular corner). The inn is in white render and black beam, with sympathetic modern windows. Whilst here in the Victorian period, the core of the building maybe older. The interior has a couple of rooms. To the right is the foody area, which is in cream and green. There is a fireplace too. For interest, there is a piano, brasses, hanging jugs, horse pictures and a TV (not on). This area is of course populated by dining tables. To the left there is the bar area. It is in white and wood, with red patterned bench seats. It has a red and beam ceiling and a fake white brick floor. There is a fireplace and brasses are dotted about. The TV had the news on and there was no music. The service was friendly and a small clientele were in, with a few more on the patio. Beer; usual tap stuff with Doombar, Abbot and Old Golden Hen (decent) on handpull. Not the most inspiring choice, but the Hen saved the day. A nice place, and worth a visit, even if just for one.

Large pub, spread over two bars. The left hand side as you enter is a public bar, whilst the right is more of an eatery. The interior is relatively mundane, with white walls and a smattering of old photos hung up. Three ales were available - Sharps Doombar (off), GK Abbott and a Saltaire beer. I tried the two available ales and both were OK, if rather uninspiring. We also ate here and the food really was quite good, so I'd recommend it for that. It's very draughty in places and the sub-zero temperatures caught us a bit, I had to keep getting up to close the main doors after the born-in-a-barns had been through it. Pub is family-friendly.

Overall, not bad, perhaps I caught the beer on an off-day and at least they're trying - South West Wales is a real ale desert in many places. I'd be willing to go again.
