Large single storey pub relatively modernly built. Has plenty of outside space around the pub but not seemingly all part of the pub’s grounds. There was a wake going on mostly outside and it seemed like a pretty jolly affair. Inside there is a large area seemingly mostly taken by diners with some half height screens to shield off from the bar area which was mostly standing and with some tall tables. To the left of the bar was a “sports” area with pool table and some screens obviously there to show live sport. To the left of the bar was a continuation of the “dining” area. During our time here, there was a quiz on-going that we worked out we would have gone close to winning but we only arrived half way through round two!

Beer wise there were plenty of lagers (Carling, Peroni, San Miguel, Bayside (how many know that is a “Welsh” lager from Brains), Madri and K1664), a couple of ciders (Olde English and Aspall), Guinness, Brains Smooth Bitter and Well Hazy (as session pale from Franscian Well). There were four hand pumps. The Butty Bach, Reverend James and Brains SA were all drinking well, but the Brains SA Gold was below par so I flipped back to the Butty Back for fourth and last pint of the session.

First visit to this one near to my wife’s family home in Lisvane. Wasn’t expecting too much but it was a lively venue with the quiz ongoing and the cask beer in good nick albeit not the most exciting range.

The Pendragon is another Brains pub located in the residential suburb of Thornhill. It is a modern build situated in quite extensive grounds. Although only a small part of this contains the beer garden.

Being a Brains pub, this was one of only two pubs amongst the 10 we visited which actually had Welsh real ales on. Brains Bitter, SA Gold & Rev James were accompanied by Marston's Pedigree. I quite enjoyed my SA Gold.

There were a few other customers in. All appeared to be there for the food. Nevertheless, the two bar staff weren't exactly overworked. Whilst this appears to be mainly for diners, a dartboard in the corner did suggest that drinkers (and darts players) are also welcomed.
