Now the only pub remaining in the village of Abermule, this pub was closed throughout the week last week, only opening for drinkers on Saturday lunchtime. I suspect there was some kind of works being undertaken.
I arrived for the midday opening on the Saturday, shortly before a few youngsters sped into the car park to earn their place at the dartboard. As I went to sit down with my HPA (the other choice was Butty Bach), an elderly guy was also arriving and a swift turn of pace from him meant he quickly nabbed the table I was aiming for. They're clearly a very territorial lot around here!
As you enter, there is a dining room to the left, with the bar to the right. To the rear of the pub is a garden and a campground/caravan park.
I'm not sure this pub was worth the effort to get to and whilst my HPA was ok, I'm surprised to find it in the Good Beer Guide.
