I was looking forward to visiting the Purple Moose brewery tap, so it was a little disappointing to find it dominated by loud pop music at just after 12 noon. I tried the small garden but some different modern pop played by the kitchen staff reached its ghastly tentacles out towards me. I couldn't get my usual photo of the pump clips (five Purple Moose, and a guest from Tudor) because of a couple of regulars camped in front of them. I don't blame them, as the tables and associated seating looked pretty uncomfortable to me too. I went for the new grapefruit infused Paradisi Pale 4.5%, which I had made the acquaintance of in the Penrhyn Arms yesterday, and found in equally superb condition in the Albion in Conwy. Here it's a more sedate Very Good (£4.50/pint). If only my first impression of the pub had been likewise.

A brewery tap for Purple Moose, housed in a traditional book dating from 1864. GBG 2024.

Smartly decorated, with several booths that offer access to charging points. Lots of purple. Of course, the breweries own beers available.

Finally managed to make it in here after two previously aborted attempts. No longer a ‘gang of four’ pub and now fully Purple Moose. Very nicely done with Moose branding everywhere and the corporate purple in abundance – I like purple so it suited me just fine. Six of theirs on cask, scoops of Madog's (NBSS 4) and Dark Side (3.5) cemented it’s GBG listing for me. There were also two of theirs on keg alongside some other lesser-spotted options. I really liked it, a good attempt at bridging the traditional pub ethos with an appeal to the local mums and yoof market.
