Internally partly renovated since previous reviews, but it’s by no means elegant and appears very disjointed. You climb over piles of fag ends to get through the door from the sizeable car park, then you have a choice of turning right to the newly decorated dining area or left into the scruffy bar which feels like a work in progress. The bar has bare boards on the floor, while the rest of the pub is carpeted. There is a table skittles table and a free-standing woodburner in the bar. It did have a friendly, local feel, though standing at the bar was made less palatable by one of the locals’ vaping. The young bar staff were pleasant enough. Four handpumps, one dry, the others dispensing Stan’s Cider, Wilcox’s Cider and Butcombe Original in fair condition. Also on were Black Gates Stout, Cruzcampo, Estrella, Amstel, Laser Juice, Thatcher’s Gold, Dry and Rascal, and Guinness. Probably fine for a pit stop but not really a destination of choice.
