A large food-oriented place (Vintage Inns). The food is decent enough for what it is (eg not freshly prepared) though expensive given its, ahem ‘provenance’. Service levels can be variable. Two ales usually on (St Austell Tribute and Butcombe Bitter feature regularly) and condition is OK if a tad cold. The inside of the place usually feels a bit cold for some reason. Has a beer garden outside. A safe, if unspectacular, bet; I think half the custom are former patrons of the Battleaxes in Wraxall who gave up on it during its decline in the mid 2000’s.

Quite food led with a decent selection of dishes on the main menu, plus a few on the specials board. They do food all day as well which is useful. Nothing outstanding but not too bad either. It's a nice comfy pub, and they have a decent range of drinks as well. However, on popping in recently for a pint after a walk nearby, I asked for a packet of crips. The response I got was "we don't sell crisps Sir, we're really more of a restaurant". What rubbish. Rather put me off the place to be honest.
It's tucked out the way in a village cul-de-sac, but also only two minutes drive from J19 of the M5. It's the same chain as the The Globe at Newton St Low and the Dovecoat ast Ashton, so if you're familiar with either of them you know what to expect.
