Refurbished and renamed since my previous review, this still appears to be some sort of late night student bar type of establishment, and as such my expectations were fairly low. It was extremely quiet on our recent Thursday evening visit with only three other punters in, but then again it’s probably one of those places that doesn’t really get going until much later on.
It’s split across two rooms internally, with the bar counter to the left in the smaller room and a larger room to the right which included a dance floor with mirrored ceiling, DJ desk and a further bar counter at the rear, although this was not in use on our visit. Décor wise it was difficult to determine any sort of colour scheme due to the coloured lighting and mirror balls creating moving patterns of light all around, but paintwork did appear to include shades of purple, mauve, lemon, orange and maroon. The flooring was mostly some sort of wood strip, with black and white chequered tiling elsewhere. Seating was a mixture of stools at small round tables as well as some padded bench seating to one side that had been fitted back to back with a table between to form individual booths. The bar counters had some very blingy, inset and illuminated pattered fronts to them, whilst some dry ice was being pumped around at the rear, presumably in an unsuccessful attempt to add a bit of atmosphere.
Predictably there were no real ales on tap, although they did have Neck Oil, Brixton Reliance and something called Jubel (beer cut with peach, apparently) on keg. The solitary cider meanwhile was Inch’s Medium Apple. All in all, definitely not my sort of place, although at least the two bar staff we saw were pleasant and friendly.

A trendy bar/music venue on the Triangle, it seems to be one of those places that doesn’t really get going until later in the evening. Driving past late at night I have seen long queues along the pavement to get in, but on a recent Thursday evening visit it was virtually deserted, with bar staff and bouncers outnumbering the punters 2:1.
Presumably it was at one time a number of different shops that have now been knocked through in to one, and is consequently something of a rabbit warren. Decor wise, it is similar throughout though, with a largely wood strip floor along with a few tiles at the rear, purple wood panelling on the lower part of the walls and mustard colour paintwork elsewhere. There were also a couple of black and white murals on the walls as well as a few TV screens dotted around which appeared to be showing mostly advertisements for the venue.
Flashing lights seem to be something of a theme here, and there were numerous examples of these dotted around the ceiling, although the number of security cameras gave them a good run for their money. The coloured lighting extended to the tables which were low plastic pods, illuminated from within, with the colour changing every few seconds. A DJ Booth was in one corner, although this was not in use on our visit.
Unfortunately there were no real ales on tap, just their own Mbargo beer on keg. Ciders fared slightly better with Magners Golden Draught and the rather generic sounding Hereford Cider. This was priced at a very reasonable £2.50 a pint, as it was happy hour – which apparently runs from Sunday to Thursday (!)
