Councillors were told last night that Tesco's legal representatives had written to the authority warning the reasons for serving the Article 4 did not meet the legal tests and inviting them to reconsider their position.
The council sought legal advice from a Queen's Counsel who agreed the authority had been wrong to impose an Article 4.

The Campaign to save the pub can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/667522626658772/ . This evening, the Campaign was successful in persuading the local Council to impose an Article 4 on the pub, forcing any change of use to a supermarket through the normal planning process. A major victory.
July 2014
Enterprise plan to lease the building to Tesco for 25 years. Local group are contesting this. Not over yet...pub closes under the current tenant Aug 3rd.

The latest licensees have been in situ for just over three years I think, and have turned round what was an under-performing large 70's estate pub after a thorough overhaul. Two rooms (public and lounge bars) serving up to three ales, often sourced from local breweries in decent shape. They've also got a massive LocAle bottle collection to drink in or take away. Café-style food and coffees are offered in the front bar – the handpumps are round the back so don’t be put off! The atmosphere has changed tremendously for the better. Pieminster pies available. It is good to see some action at last on this pub. I informed CAMRA about this change of use some weeks ago and also posted here below and on BITE on 25th June. I hope something can be done at this late stage. It is a pity action was not started when I first posted six weeks ago.
