Thuck Phat left this review about The Crown
The Crown is a traditional, stone built pub in the attractive village of Elton.
Inside has been refurbished but sympathetically so with heavy wood beams, exposed stone walls, a wood floor and dark heavy wood furniture.
As you enter, there is a staircase to the right leading to the letting rooms whilst to the left you enter the pub with the bar along the back wall. At the end of this room to the left is a smaller room which was laid for eating on my visit and there is also a large room behind the bar which, I assume, is used as a restaurant during busy times.
The friendly and attractive barmaids were very attentive and the service was very good. It wasn't especially busy during my lunchtime visit but given how efficiently things were being run I'd be surprised if the staff are ever overwhelmed.
The place feels gastro an the menu bears this out. I went for fishcakes which were clearly homemade and plentiful, there were six, and very good although not cheap at £10.95. These were served on a revolving wooden board on top of a grease proof paper circle. I'm not sure why but this style of presentation may not be to everyone's taste.
The Crown does make a real effort on the ale front with six handpumps which had on the following: Oakham JHB, Nene Valley OZP, Star Brewing Astral, Elton Golden Crown Bitter, Phipps IPA and Greene King IPA. That's a fair selection with a few local breweries represented and the JHB and Astral were both in good shape.
It's a very good pub this and much appreciated by the village I'd imagine. I'd happily visit again.
