An old school backstreet boozer with an old school landlord and landlady who initially seemed a bit taken aback by a group of us turning up at opening time but soon warmed to the task. The exterior is well weather worn with the majority of the pubs name missing from the frontage, inside is more pleasant and functional. Five beers were on of which I tried two, Abbeydale Okarito and Rockingham Golden Hour, both in pleasing condition.
The pub is a little out of the way but well worth finding.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Hand & Heart

Sound side-street pub with a plain but unspoilt bar at the front, a lesser used Smoke Room at the back and a small off-sales counter in-between. The former is simply but tidily furnished, with the original 1938 light-wood counter, a dartboard above the fireplace at one end and (very unusually) a war memorial at the other. Mind you, most of the front lettering has gone since my last visit six years ago. Again, five interesting cask ales in various styles from smaller brewers from a the six handpumps, including Deep Thought from the regular Tydd Steam (£4.20), Doctor Morton's Fake News and Okarito from Abbeydale, Brewster's Dragon Street Porter and The Golden Hour from Rockingham. Well worth the walk.

Less than impressed with the Hand & Heart. 6 of us turned up to drink beer, but got the distinct feeling that we were not welcome. After 2 minutes, a local slammed his laptop shut, downed his pint and stormed out!! No idea why? The beer was average, however, the fire was roaring and it was very warm. As with Real Ale Ray, we left and jumped on the No.1 to the Palmerston Arms.
