A cheap and cheerful town pub which is a good alternative to the nearby ‘Spoons. We went in and were told by the barmaid that the kitchen was just closing but the landlady immediately said it wasn’t a problem and made sure we got a decent meal. Food was basic pub grub, but well-cooked and plentiful. There is a single L-shaped bar with a carpeted end which is the dining area, the rest of the floor being laminate. There are a couple of gaming machines, and the ambiance is slightly marred by popular music from the jukebox. Ales on were Wainwright Blond and Doombar, plus there was a bank of premium lagers. The staff were pleasant and couldn’t do enough for us. I’d be very happy to come back for food next time I’m here.
