Former Robbie’s pub. Attractive exterior, part mock tudor with a Mittel Europa-style turret. And, despite some opening-out and half-arsed modernisation, the interior isn't too bad either with some wood panelling and old (salvaged?) bits and bobs, though it’s somewhat over-lit. A pair of Ulverston ales on and my Elephant was par (NBSS 3). Worth a look if you find yourself in town, there’s enough to hold your attention. 6.5

Sold at auction by Robinsons, but has been bought by a regular and will be remaining as a pub according to Brainy Pool.

Good news for once, but I hope he's going to stop selling that Robbies tosh then. :-))

The Golden Ball is a decent looking pub that is in the town centre and it is joined onto the Black Bull but set back from it.
Once inside this was a decent pub and we had a drink in a comfortable lounge there may have been other rooms but we did'nt look.
When we went in this pub it was a Hartleys tied house and there were three real ales on the bar we had a drink of Hartleys bitter and this was a very nice well kept pint the other beers were Hartleys Mild and XB.
We quite liked this pub and would have happily stayed longer but there were more pubs to do here.
