Hotel and pub in the middle of the village once famed for sword making by German immigrants, hence the name. The pub part is on the right with a separate door to the hotel section. There are no pulls in the hotel bar only a low T bar and a couple of solos. The pub bar has three pulls, on this occasion Hadrian and Border Tyneside Blonde, Double Maxim and Wainwright, my Double Maxim was pretty good but just GBG standard at NBSS 3 being a bit out of condition and slightly stale - first one out? I was eating so sat in the hotel bar rather than the pub bit, the staff brought the beer to me from the public bar downstairs, small blackboards above the bar back showed the available casks. The hotel bar is a pleasant enough room with old board floors and tartan carpets, walls in tongue & groove below and plaster, wallpaper or rough planks above. Decor is clocks, mirrors and prints. Obviously furnished for dining and supplied with piped music, which I was lucky enough to have the barmaid sing along to. There’s a sun trap garden at the back of the hotel bar as well.
