A very nice village pub, quite busy at about 7pm midweek, with people coming in with reservations, and people being served inside and outside - the evening sun being appreciated and the road not busy enough to be distracting. The woman running the pub was friendly and welcoming, and happy enough to talk about beer with a random cyclist and pub ticker, even though I clearly wasn't in the market for anything more expensive. There are three hand pumps, with Loweswater Gold and Hawkshead Windermere Pale both on regularly, and a changing third beer which was Wainwright at the time of my visit. The Loweswater, which has never been a favourite of mine, was very good (NBSS 3.5) but the Windermere Pale was the best I've had of this beer (NBSS 4). This pub is only 15 minutes by bike from Kirkby Stephen, so I'll definitely have this one on my list for a revisit next time I'm in the area.
