This is clearly a popular stop for people cycling the Hadrian's Wall route, though I'm going the other way to Bowness on Solway. Scaffolding around the building spoils its good looks, but work seems to be limited to the roof. Three hand pumps on the bar, with one pump clip reversed and Black Sheep Best and Hawkshead Mosaic available. The latter seemed to have a bit of a chill haze and was not impressive. The background music was beginning to get irritating, especially Tainted Love at a higher volume, and then the next track was Something in the Air, the best single of 1969, which inexplicably cut out during the piano solo. I'm in a generous mood, so no marks deducted for poor taste.
