A traditional building in local stone, extended from the original farmhouse and now having plenty of room for diners, with drinkers a bit of an afterthought, as is often the case in country pubs, especially solated ones like this. There are two hand pumps with Abbeydale Moonshine and Banks's Amber Bitter. My pint of the latter was £4.50 and in reasonable condition (NBSS 2.5) though it's not a big favourite of mine and (like Theakston Best Bitter) has a sweetish finish which seems to dominate more the further into the glass I get. I walked here from the bus stop by the Millstone at Hathersage Booths on the A6187 - it's quite steeply downhill and can be slippery after rain, then there's the railway crossing to negotiate. A more pleasant walk than sticking to the main road though.

The Plough is about a 15 minute walk from the middle of Hathersage, its a decent looking pub which is mainly a food pub with very few seats for drinkers like me,i sat at the bar and was quite happy here there were three real ales these were Bollington Happy Valley which was a decent drink and Clarks Rams Revenge i didnt get to see the other pump clip, plenty of people were eating and i think it was worth the walk here.
