A slightly anonymous Victorian or Edwardian hotel in the leafy streets of Kew. Stepping inside you find vast expanses of polished floorboards with a limited number of socially-distanced tables - whether Covid-related or just pretentious I don't know. The plain green decor is largely unadorned giving a very restrained feel. At the back are some booths, a large table and stairs to an upper level, as well as an outdoor area. A Greene King pub with IPA and the house beer on pump, but at least they managed to include a guest in the shape of Windsor & Eton Guardsman, even if not in the best of form. Generally smart enough but lacking in any real atmosphere.

A large L-shaped pub with accommodation upstairs, so a genuine "hotel". The bar is in front of you as you walk in, to the rear a curved stair leads up to a mezzanine. It looks like this plus part of the rear section are designated dining areas. Through some french doors here is some outside seating, of no use on a foul and rainy day.
Boarded floors with a chequered tiled bar area, all sorts of mixed seating including high booths down the side and sofas at old travelling trunks. Decor includes a framed map of days gone by, an original London Underground map pre-Beck's design of today, local scenes as usual plus there are various books on the window cills. There is a TV which was unusually off on a Saturday afternoon so I don't think this is a sport oriented pub.
Six handpumps, Sambrook's Pumphouse Pale Ale (£4), GKIPA, Kew True Brew and Bedlam Brewery Benchmark. Two unclipped. The Kew True Brew is in fact the beer that GK rebadge for various pubs and allow to be named locally, not brewed by the local Kew Brewery, which I find to be a bit dodgy really, almost passing off. Thankfully, knowing the place is part of the GK empire and noting the trademark 3.9% on the clip I sussed this.
Overall, difficult to judge, the beer issue above narked me a bit and there was a 3 year old's birthday party winding down while I was in (I knew due to the massive silver "3" balloon), coupled with a miserable wet day and with my football team losing yet again I may be unfair on leaving a rating so I won't.

The interior consists of a large L shaped room with the bar facing you as you enter. The majority of the floor space is floor boarded apart from the black and white tiles surrounding the bar. The sash widows and sash boxes have been stripped back to the original timber, which had turned to a honey colour with age. The rest of the woodwork was painted in a heritage sage green colour. The bar consisted of a solid mahogany counter and painted bar front.
Six handpumps on the bar with four in operation. It was great to see two from Kew Brewery, so we went for the Kew Brewery True Brew, which was excellent, also the service here was top class.
