John Bonser left this review about The Rising Sun
In the picturesque coastal village of Lynmouth, close to the harbour at the foot of much photographed Mars Hill, is The Rising Sun Hotel, an attractive 14th Century inn with a thatched roof.
The main pub building is small, but the premises extends further up the hill into what looks like originally different buildings and which blend in quite well with the exterior of the main pub. Accommodation is offered and the pub retains an old fashioned AA 2 star yellow sign.
The interior features low ceilings, wooden beams and the feel and atmosphere of a rather upmarket traditional country inn. Inevitably, there’s a food emphasis, but traditional bar stools along the length of the counter indicate that drinkers are not discouraged.
Outside at the front, stone seats have been constructed against the pub wall and which afford fine views of the harbour and the sea.
Beers on were Exmoor Ale, Gold and Stallion. The former - £ 3.10p – was in excellent form.
If you’re in Lynmouth, you should try and find time to call in.

I L left this review about The Rising Sun
The typical thatch country pub on the outside, ovelooking the harbour with a great wood panelled interior, this wonderful looking pub is also the most popular in Lynmouth. The place gets very busy at meal times with the main restaurant area off to the left as you enter the pub with some seating areas around the bar area. We were luckily enough to get seats at the bar as we weren't there for the food. Ales were mainly from Exmoor with another one that appeared to be a house beer. This is definately a must visit pub when in Lynmouth.
