Once a traditional village pub, now a food-led grockle trap that doesn’t welcome drinkers. There is a children’s adventure playground taking up much of the outside space, and the car park that used to be a nice garden has a useless one-way system in place. Sitting in the garden probably isn’t a great experience in the Summer, partly due to the playground, and partly the constant road noise from the nearby A303. On entering we were told to sit in the drinking area by staff who were over-worked and under-organised, and also a bit grumpy that we just wanted to drink. This was despite an abundance of empty tables in the much larger dining area and an abundance of very mobile children in the the other. They relented, and we sat at one of the many non-reserved dining tables. Ales on were Otter Bitter and Elf, in reasonably good condition. Also on were Madri, Guinness, Atlantic, Aspall’s Cider and Pravha. The beer was OK, but it’s unlikely I’ll return when there are better pubs in nearby Honiton.

Food was cheap and cheerful with speedy service, although bit of a shock when all steaks and steak and ale pie was off the menu. Ales available were Otter Ale and Tintagel's Castle Gold, both acceptable.

Despite being physically close to the A30 and just outside Honiton, this pub can be quite tricky to get to due to obscure road truncations. Once there, the large car park is a giveaway that this is mainly an eating house. The front, presumably original, entrance takes you into a fairly pleasant drinking area, but a large extension off to the side features a longer bar, carvery and many tables laid up for dining. Draught beers from Otter and a guest, which was a well-kept Hanlons Yellowhammer at time of visit. Cask Marque listed.
