A large village pub which is much more a village local than a tourist trap. It’s in the middle of the village and has a small parking area of its own. Inside, there is a single large bar at the front, though it’s partially demarcated by elements of the original walls, including a two-sided chimney breast which forms a more intimate area at one end. There is a separate large restaurant area. The locals are a good, mixed bunch which represents the whole of the village’s demography. The landlord is a bit grumpy but otherwise welcoming and professional – I got the sense that he’s nervous of strangers but probably quite a good bloke once you get to know him. There is a dart board and a pool table. Ales on were Otter Amber and Doombar; the Otter was in good condition but served a bit too cold. Food was home cooked and not too expensive. Well worth a visit and a good place to have lunch if you’re in the area, but opening times can be a bit haphazard.
