A neat looking detached pub and restaurant that also does accommodation, which is in white render and has some character. It has a patio and is in the GBG 2010.
The interior has three rooms; a bar, restaurant and a function room which was also laid out as a restaurant area when we visited. The bar is divided by a few stairs and railingsin two and is on a couple of levels, so you walk into the pub, up a few stairs to get to the facing serving bar. It is in green and white, with some undressed stone work and stone floor and has an eclectic mix of ephemera, including prints and pictures, particularly with a ship and nautical theme, trophies and a piano. A walk around the corner takes you into the restaurant area, which is in the same decor and has the same kind of ephemera, including a model boat. We went into the function area, which was also laid out for food. This room, at the back, was in green panel and cream, with cream and beam ceiling and wood floor. There was a brick fireplace and art deco light fittings. The same kind of ephemera was present. The food we had was fine and it was a good overall dining experience. The service was good, the clientele mixed but it was quiet, we were the first to eat i think and you got the feeling it is more dining than anything. The music was general and at a decent level.
Beer; tap stuff with a decent Palmer's Gold, its own Lugger Ale - which is in fact DBC's Best, as well as the untried Piddle and DBC Chesil.
A decent country pub and restaurant - good beer and food. Pleased I ate and visited here and would return.
