A former coaching inn just outside the town centre with a main bar to the front - bare boards, gaming machine and a tv which was very intrusive, while the old courtyard to the rear has been converted into a larger bar/function room with original stone floor a prominent feature. The pub is reputedly haunted; a plaque by the front door tells the story. No ale on tap, so I had a bottle of Old Peculiar. Clientele is mixed and lively, while dogs are welcome. The reception was friendly enough, though the overall feel was more loud boozing establishment than nice pub. Not really my kind of pub, and the lack of draft beer puts me off wanting to come back when there are so many better pubs nearby.
