Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Barley Mow
Recently reopened country-style dining pub, but located on the busy A27 so plenty of passing trade. Both the multi-room interior and substantial two-part rear beer garden have been thoroughly refurbished by the new owners, and plenty of events of different types advertised. The indoor areas are quite dark during the daytime due to small windows and the paint scheme, and the bar can be found in the centre opposite the original front door. Two Long Man beers available from the three handpumps: Best Bitter and Long Blonde (£5.50).

Strongers . left this review about The Barley Mow
I’ve visited the Barley Mow on a few occasions since my first visit four years ago. Nothing much has changed from my 2011 review except that the prices have gone up with inflation and the children’s play area has been modernised. I thought that the old apparatus were more entertaining for the children to be honest, but this new set up seems safer.
During my afternoon visit yesterday one of the five hand pumps was unused leaving Harvey’s Best and Long Man Brewery’s Copper Hop as the ale options. The remaining two hand pumps were drawing South Downs Apple Cider and Pear Cider.
I still rate this pub and think that it is worth the 20 minute drive for a visit on a nice summer’s afternoon.

The Barley Mow is a roadhouse located on the A27 between Polegate and Lewes. The bar is in the middle of this long thin pub and the three hand pumps that I spotted were drawing Hophead, Harveys Best and WJ King’s Red River. There was also a limited standard draught selection, but I opted for the Hophead which was spot on. To the left of the bar is some seating and a bar billiards table and to the right of the bar there is a dining type area. The mains came in around the £9/10 mark and £4.50 off of the children’s menu. The kitchen opening times were listed as midday until 15:00 and 18:00 until 21:00, but food orders were still being taken at 16:00 on the Sunday afternoon I visited on a couple of weeks ago. There is a small TV in the bar area which was off during my visit and there is no Sky Sports, but there is a quiz every Thursday from 20:30.
This pubs major draw is found out the back where there are some lovely views of the South Downs along with an impressive adventure playground that keeps that little ones entertained. There is plenty of seating on the large decked area out the back and also adjacent to the playground. A sign inside the pub proudly boasts that this is ‘probably the most child friendly pub in East Sussex’ and I have no reason to doubt this claim.
Being out of the way this is probably not a place I would seek out for a session, but it is perfect for families with young children who fancy letting their hair down on a sunny afternoon.
