A traditional pub in the coaching stop of Stony Stratford which may well have been a coaching inn.
I found The White Horse a real mixture of styles. The front of the pub feels quite traditional with an inglenook fireplace housing a welcoming imitation fire with seats on either side, benches against the wall and tables surrounded by stools albeit the furniture is upholstered in a loud red and yellow stripe. The back of the pub feels much more modern with a dart board and tall tables and stools. Several large screens were showing the Friday night footy and it does have the feel of a sports bar.
There was a friendly welcome from behind the bar and the atmosphere overall is friendly and chatty.
Two beers were on both from XT: XPA and XT6. The XPA was exceptional, we all tried it and none could resist a second. The GBG 2016 notes that the beer selection changes regularly but focuses on local breweries so you never know what you're going to find but it's well worth taking the chance if our experience is anything to go by.
Great beer and it would be my first visit in Stony Stratford.

A traditional boozer in a pleasing building with a coaching arch to one side. The bar is immediately infront of the door and is L shaped .There is a thick pillar in the bar and the handpumps are located to the side of this pillar and may not be readily visible if punters are bar blocking.
There is a good inglenook to the left with two small benches and a very realistic coal affect gas fire.A bench seat runs underneath a window surrounded by large and somewhat weird square pooves, while beyond the bar is a games room section with high tables,Sky sports tv and a darts board.
At the bar there are 3 handpumps with two working on our trip offering XT 6 and XPA(outstanding) ,and the GBG listing seemed spot on.
Based in a very attractive old coaching inn town and close to some good curry houses, this is a really friendly boozer with great ale, what more could you hope for ?

A traditional, no frills boozer located in the heart of Stony’s historic High Street. It’s a single room affair, and seems to cater primarily for groups of young men interested in watching football.
The area at the front of the pub is probably the most attractive part, with an old fireplace over to the left and an impressive large wooden lintel above it. Any potential cosiness was somewhat spoilt though by the plasma on one side and the projection screen on the other, both showing the football. This was clearly the main point of interest, with all the punters gathered around watching.
The pub continues on past the bar and opens out at the rear, where there is a dart board, fruit machine and quiz machine, along with another projector screen although fortunately this was not in use on a recent visit. The flooring is mostly old boards, although with some carpet at the front, and the paintwork is mustard with dark wood panelling on the lower part of the walls. There were a few miscellaneous sporting pictures on the walls, but overall there was little of any note.
There were a couple of pumps on the bar, but only one was in use dispensing Brains SA. The solitary cider was Strongbow, unfortunately.
