A fairly respectable village pub, traditionally furnished with a few bits of modern decor applied. There is a main room extending round the bar, a dining room to the side and a separate games room with pool and darts. A reasonable emphasis on food, although it is only the usual Marston's corporate menu, but retaining enough pub atmosphere to not just be an eatery. Two handpumps in use offered Brakspear's Gravity and Tetley Bitter - the former, which was first out of the day, was decidedly on the turn but was graciously replaced with the latter, which was fair enough.

An extensive dog-leg shape interior with a traditional mid 90s style refit - red and blue carpet, fake beams, brown varnish etc. Pool table at far end, dart boards and a live band setting up. Noted a private hire dining room. Owned by Marstons and a good slab of their satellite breweries represented on the bar - Pedigree, Thwaites Wainwright, Marstons EPA (pedestrian), Brakspear Bitter and Hobgoblin. A sad downer was the pretty vile racist scribblings on the back of the entry door to the gents, surely it isn’t beyond the wit of the licensee to paint this over with a cheap tin of gloss paint? I’d hate to think it’s condoned. Anyway, that aside, this was a fair enough place.

Currently (March 2010) undergoing a major refurbishment. Potentially could be a really good pub - try it when finished. Seems to have good value food, and gets bonus marks for having a (fully-working - rare) pinball machine!
