Country pub that feels like it's in the middle of nowhere, but has stunning views of the surrounding countryside. Inside, there are two rooms - a sub-divided bar and a dining room. Whether they were serving food, I'm not sure, but there were no other customers when I arrived. The barman looked a little bored and surprised to see a customer. Before I departed, a couple of local workmen turned up for a post-work drink.
The bar has slate floor tiles. There is a large map of Dorset over a fireplace with a wood burner. From the front windows, there are some expansive views across the rolling countryside. A large garden can be found on the opposite side of the lane with similar views to be had.
There are 4 handpulls. Otter Bitter is the regular ale. Guests were St Austell Tribute & Exmoor Drumloop. The fourth handpull was unclipped. St Austell Proper Job was also available on keg, whilst there was a bag-in-the-box cider sat on the bar. This was Isaac's Anti-Gravity.
It's possible that this pub has a much different feel at meal times and on a sunny summer's afternoon when its location will come into its own. However, on a dull Tuesday mid-afternoon in autumn, there was little to no atmosphere. The presence of a real cider is a plus point for me and my Drumloop was quite nice and in good condition. So, there are definitely positives to be had.

A family owned country pub with spectacular views over the Parrett Valley to the North. The view is best appreciated from the lawned garden the other side of the road. There is a small carpark, just off the main road. You enter thr pub through a small porch which has a barrel of water for dogs. Inside, there are two bars in the original part of the house and a dining room in a single-storey extension, the bars having a variety of seating arrangements. Food is of a high standard, and they use mainly local, freshly procured ingredients. The landlord was quite busy but still made time to speak to us - we asked about CAMRA discount but were told that ‘the beer is cheap enough already’, a matter for debate. The ales on were Otter, Cotleigh’s Tawny, Friels and BDC’s Durdle Dor, all in excellent condition. There is also a range of non-alcoholic drinks – non alcohol wine, beer and cider (though the last of those is usually referred to as ‘apple juice, I believe). I am very much looking forward to coming back here.

Warm welcome, good service, well kept beers, good food, magnificent view - but no way is this a perfect 10/10 pub (see previous review) but a very good and realistic 7/10.
