Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Sun & Castle

This pub was given a pleasingly traditional retro look when acquired by Joseph Holt in the 1990s, although the low lighting levels mean it's really quite gloomy in the slightly split-level seating areas in the main bar due to the extensive use of dark wood and furniture. The smaller front bar on the left-hand side is brighter, but is also home to the famous budgies. Just the brewery's malty bitter available from the pair of handpumps, but that's a decent pint.

The Sun and Castle has an aviary in the front seating area so the chirping of the birds is audible throughout the pub, not that this is a bad thing. This is a Holts pub so the two handpumps on the bar the runs up the left wall were both drawing Bitter and the usual keg for this chain was also available. Seating runs up the right wall and at the rear is a small raised seating are next to a stage that had some strange macabre magician scene set-up using manikins and other props. Televisions, including a big screen are available for airing important sporting events such as Halifax v Chesterfield. There is also a left hand bar where more seating, a pool table and a dartboard can be found. This isn’t somewhere that I’ll be rushing back to revisit.

A smart Holts pub which is much bigger on the inside that it looks. There's a lounge area to the left where there are 2 budgies in a cage. The main room has a small raised area to the left and a small stage which is used for karaoke. A good looking carpet, lots of wood and several prints around the walls. 2 handpumps on the bar, but only Holts Bitter available, which was a well kept pint. It's a good traditional pub, I liked this one.
