My experience of Craft Union pubs is that they are basic, fairly cheap and usually well run, with real ale either non-existent, in dubious condition or, like this one, pretty good. It was Sharps Doom Bar, of course, though a second hand pump might see some action at the weekend. I'm guessing that the owners have done a paint job on the interior, at least, though the strange fudge-colour they've used tends to emphasise the fake-rustic beams. There are three steps down from the bar area to the games room on the right (and a large one up from street level). There were more customers here than when I was in the Shoulder of Mutton a few minutes before, and I would imagine the slightly cheaper beer had something to do with this - my half of Doom Bar was only £1.30.
