I know I've been here before, in 2018 with others from this website, and probably a few years earlier with some of my Luton Town mates. Tonight's visit was with the intention of getting a quieter, more sober look at this iconic pub. It was certainly quieter, with no more than half a dozen at any time while I was here on the first Monday evening of the year. I had unaccoubtably chosen a citra and mosaic pale from Farm Yard brewery (see photos for what I could have had), and while it was undoubtedly in very good condition (NBSS 4, £5.30/pint) it was clearly - or should that be murkily? - not to my taste. We live and learn. Looks like I'm going to have to come back another time.

Revisited on a Saturday evening back in May, to find the City Arms as reliable as ever. Unchanged for many years and a traditional interior, already well described, with an interesting selection of real ales available covering a decent range of styles.
Of course, the above makes the City Arms is popular, but if there is no seating left in the cosy back room, there is plenty of standing space in the front room.
Can't fault the place.

Visited this 2022 Good Beer Guide pub on 11.8.22 and found a fantastic choice of cask ales. There were a few from Neptune brewery, and we chose Neptune Sea of Dreams and Wander Beyond Wolfsbane, both well kept. Certainly one to have on your to do list when visiting the city.
