Hogarths is a large sports pub with screens throughout, including a large projector, for showing live football. There was nothing going on other than some background music during a recent Tuesday evening so it was quiet, apart from a few moody fifty-somethings. The interior is L-shaped with a long central L-shaped bar counter that supports standard and premium keg alongside four hand pumps, one of which was in use drawing Theakston’s Best. Up on the right hand wall is a windowed snug, which I assume is reserved for royalty. At the rear is seating on a small mezzanine level with sunken seating underneath where access can be gained to the beer garden out the back. I’d pop back in here to watch football, but I wouldn’t any other time because I didn’t find it very welcoming.

A complet change from it's previous incarnation as Capitol. It's all one large room really, but on different level and with several distinct raised or lowered area. There's a massive mural on the main wall and a dummy brewery at the front. TV screens all over the place including in the booths and at the tables. 4 handpumps on the bar all from "Hogarths". My half was only £1.05 and was a decent, well kept drink. It's quite a comfortable pub apart from all the TVs.

Massive Smith & Jones pub converted from a Varsity bar. There are two levels inside and a large garden patio at the rear and a decent sized area at the front as well. Nicely decorated in an upmarket JDW kind of style with similar menus. It was pretty quiet when I called at around 6:30 on a Friday evening and I would have expected to see more of the after work crowd in. 4 handpumps on the bar with 3 on serving Thwaites Wainwright, Black Sheep Bitter & Bombardier. So not the most inventive of cask line ups, but the Wainwright was a well kept pint and a £2.10 was a bit of a bargain. I'll call in for another look next time I'm in Bolton.
