A traditional village pub as described below. It's clearly visible from the main road, though getting to it through a narrow one-way system, then getting into the car park, needs a bit of effort. There is a small garden at the back which is probably quite pleasant in the Summer. The pub is currently owned by St Austell, so the two ales on were Tribute and Proper Job, both in good condition, and there were two dry pumps. The keg choices were Thatcher's Gold and Dry, Stan's and Devon Red. Korev and Arctic Sky completed the line-up. There was a working woodburner in the stone chimney but it seemed to contribute little warmth. The locals seemed ike a decent bunch, and the staff were welcoming. Worth nipping in if passing.

A cosy little pub tucked just off the A37 in this small village, it consists of just one room internally and has a pleasant beer garden with the river and weir running alongside, and great views of the old viaduct.

The décor is quite traditional with old wooden boards on the floor, plenty of beams on the ceiling and fitted bench seating with red cushions and painted pale yellow wallpaper. There is also some exposed stone walling and a couple of fire-places at either end. The right hand half is perhaps more intended for dining, whilst there is a darts board and a TV screen to the left although this was not in use on our visit. An old bookcase contained a selection of paperbacks, and there were plenty of hops hung around the bar. A few old photos of the locale were on the walls.

We were looking for something to eat, and unexpectedly found that Tuesday is burger night. Whilst in many pubs that means there is some sort of a deal on burgers in addition to the regular menu, here it means that burgers are the only option which wasn’t really what we had in mind. Nonetheless, there was a decent selection and you chose the patty and style separately, e.g.; a pork and chorizo patty in a Smokey Joe burger. It was decent enough, although certainly somewhat cheap and cheerful rather than anything in the gastro category, but for a fiver it was absolutely fine.

Beers on tap were Flying Monk Birdman and Butcombe, whilst the ciders were represented by a trio from Thatcher’s – Gold, Dry and Traditional.
