Located in part of the historic core of medieval Winchester so internally it’s actually not too bad. However there was no ale, one member of staff and a large queue. I decided that a half of Brew Dog probably wasn’t worth the wait so made my way onwards.

Pub SignMan left this review about The Slug & Lettuce
Having left things a little too late, we found ourselves struggling to find a pub still serving food after 3pm on a Bank Holiday Monday, and so, somewhat defeated, we decided to try the Slug and Lettuce.
The pub has an undeniably great location, just a short stroll from both the cathedral and the High Street and its position on a pedestrianised street means that it has plenty of space for outdoor seating, which is fortunate, as this looked far more appealing than having to sit inside.
The interior was typical of this pub chain, with fairly bland decor and only some nice looking seats built into the window sills setting it apart from any other Slug and Lettuce. The food was pretty poor unfortunately, with my sausage and mash turning out to be sausage and lumpy potato sludge. Two ales were on at the bar and I was pleased to see the local Flowerpots Bitter alongside Wells Bombardier. The Flowerpots was pretty good actually and was served by a nice enough barmaid, which is more than can be said for the rude woman who waited on our table.
There seemed to be a loyal band of regulars in there as well, although it is hard to see what makes them keep coming back. Not the utter disaster I was expecting, but not a good pub by any stretch of the imagination either.
