Still a Fuller’s pub, the layout remains as described by Steve, below. It’s not an appealing building from the outside, not helped by the suburban setting and the main road. It was sparsely populated, the only other customers being a bunch of drunken white-collar flunkeys braying at their boss’s unfunny jokes and failing miserably to be ‘lads’. The staff were reasonably helpful though, and if you ignored the asinine behaviour it wasn’t too bad. Ales on were Seafarers and Pride, plus Dark Star Hophead, all in good condition. It’s not really worth the effort to find from any of the marinas, and there are better pubs in the nearby town centre.

According to a local history book that was left in my holiday accommodation the Fisherman’s Rest was a cottage until it gained a license back in 1870. This is a Fullers house so I wasn’t surprised to see London Pride and Seafarers, but I think this was the first time I had come across Gales Firecracker. The draught options are Fosters, San Miguel, Amstel, Stowford Press Cider and Guinness. The bar located in the left hand side of the pub and the dining area in the right are separated by the protruding bar and a chimney breast with log fire underneath. I didn’t spot a television, but there was some background music playing. To the left of the pub is a paved seating area that separates the pub from its car park.
The pub classic mains start at £12 which is about par for Fullers. Also advertised on a chalk board is fresh fish from day boat fisherman. I imagine this changes depending upon the catch of the day. The kitchen is open from midday until 14:30 and 18:00 until 21:30 Monday to Saturday and from midday until 16:30 on Sundays. I found the service to be friendly but a couple of the locals were drunkard morons. This pub is a little too far from the town centre to warrant a return visit if in the area again.
