The Blue Lamp is situated in a quiet part of town. However, despite arriving after 11pm, the Blue Lamp itself was far from quiet. Music was playing at a very high volume, meaning everybody had to shout to get themselves heard.
I'd be drawn in by the likelihood of a real ale and sure enough, Cross Bay Sunset was on the solitary handpull at the end of the bar. I'd been warned that a visit here would be an experience and now I can see why. It definitely had a fairly rough vibe to it, from the friendly barmaid who seemed like she was on drugs to some of the edgy-looking customers.
Nevertheless, I wouldn't discount this one. My beer was fine and at least I had no problem getting served, despite my late arrival.

we have recently taken over The Blue Lamp and refurbished the whole building, from our bar and restaurant through to our rooms for rent. We offer wonderful food, a crackin pint, live music on the weekends and warm and comfy room to rest your head. we also cater for functions.For bookings for rooms, please tel 01229 832614.
