Similar to the Gibraltar Castle just along the road, the Malta is situated in the Batford area of Harpenden, to the east of the town centre. This one is very much a no frills locals' boozer. It featured in the Good Beer Guide way back in 2007, but seems to have stopped dispensing cask ales many years ago.
Late on a Friday afternoon, there was a boisterous atmosphere with a lively after-work crowd. Keg options amounted to Stella Artois, Stella Unfiltered, Carlsberg, Fosters, John Smith's, Strongbow Cloudy Apple & Dark Fruit & Guinness. Not at all my cup of tea.
