An interesting food led pub in a residential area which feels newly-built, although apparently there is a 1960s pub underneath it somewhere. The first impression on approaching is of the serried ranks of outdoor tables, some on an astroturfed area. Inside has a surprisingly relaxed atmosphere with muted dark green decor, medium wood and fairly low lighting through several areas, including a conservatory and a restaurant, with the main room by the bar featuring high tables and stools. The carvery section is boarded off when not in use, which is creditable, while the ground level cellar can be inspected through glass panels! A Robinson's house with 3 handpumps offering Dizzy Blonde, Unicorn and Throwback. Nice enough.

Puss in Boots is a large L-shaped Robinsons pub with lots of seating out the front where there is the option to order at the table using an app. Inside a centrally placed L-shaped serving counter runs across the rear where drinks can be ordered from the left and carvery from the right. Standard and premium keg were available alongside Dizzy Blonde and Unicorn from the three hand pumps. There was some background music playing and the Spain Euro2024 semi-final was airing to a disinterested crowd on a television above the bar. With lots of different seating areas this is a nice spot to have some food, but I wouldn’t come here just for a beer again.

A former estate pub - as described by Alan Winfield after his visit long before this site even existed - but now a modernised and desirable dining pub. I must admit my heart sank a little, not just while taking photos but also when walking through the outdoor seating areas and into the pub. I could go on, but in fact once I had got my beer and taken a seat and a sip, I was in a better place already. The beers are all from Robinsons, with the bowdlerised Tom & Berry seasonal which I swerved, and the usual Dizzy Blonde and Unicorn, but my half of the latter was very good (NBSS 3.5). My notes made at the time comment, "as it should be @ £4.70/pint". I did also put a reminder in my notes to deduct a mark for the poster that reads, "No pooch's past this point", my objection being not to the barring of dogs from the restaurant area, nor even the use of "pooch" when dog is intended, but to the ridiculous grocer's apostrophe instead of the correct plural pooches. (Anyone reading this who thinks "pooch's" is ok as a plural can add a mark back in and give this pub a rating of 6.)
