Quick stop as I had a few extra minutes before my train. Recently refurbished in Spring 2023 and modernised to a good standard with carpet and wallpaper on the L shaped room. The old servery remains which is a nice touch. One cask on over three pumps, a surprisingly decent drop of Kent Session (NBSS 3). 6.5

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Steam Packet
Friendly locals pub, handily placed for Strood railway station. Small 'L'-shaped bar with a pool table at the far end. Subject to a basic refurbishment, with mixed furniture and limited decor (but all well maintained). One of the two handpumps was on during my latest visit, offering a decent-enough pint of Fuller's Summer Ale (£3.20).

Despite being next to the Station, The Steam Packet is very much a locals' pub, family friendly and community oriented. It comprises a large corner bar which shows obvious signs of the former lounge, private and public bars. It has a carpeted floor, dart board and gaming machines. There is also a large tv screen which dominates the bar. Etched windows give a traditional feel to the place. The bar staff were very friendly and the regulars tolerant of a stranger in their midst. Two ales on tp, but the Bombardier was off. It was replaced with no quibbling with London Pride, which was not at its best but drinkable nonetheless. OK as back street pubs go, and alright to drop in if waiting for a train, but I wouldn't seek it out especially.
