The Ambleside Inn is in the same group of hotels as the Coniston Inn, and the way it has been refurbished is very similar. I only popped in to see if they were covering the football on TV later, and just had a half of moderately good Black Sheep out of politeness. I spent the few minutes it took me to drink it having a little laugh inside at the fakery and pretension in the alterations to the building, which I can remember having a very different ambience when I was here 10 years ago. I think I can be fairly sure it won't stay this way for another 10 years.

Will Larter left this review about Queens Hotel
This is a smart, wood-panelled hotel bar extending in various directions from the centre-rear bar. The room where I sat was towards the front, and featured a collection of oddities on high shelves: old skating and football boots, an early 20th century camera, and a pre-electric smoothing iron.
The six hand pumps on the bar all had local ales, from breweries such as Yates, Coniston and Hawkshead. On the music system: inescapably loud and truly dreadful 1950s American Christmas pop. Bah humbug!

Large bar covering ground floor of small hotel, mainly aimed at eating. Has a number of good local ales on offer, although not much atmosphere.
