The Mailbox was busy with a crowd of mixed ages when I visited not long before kick-off on a recent midweek evening. This is primarily a sports bar so the football was to be shown on the large projector on the left-hand wall and the multiple televisions throughout. These were all muted while some loud 1980s background music played. There is seating under the gaze of the projector to the left and to the right are sunken and raised seating areas. High tables run along the front windows and through the centre of the pub, and on the rear wall is a curved bar counter. Standard and premium keg were available alongside Beavertown’s Neck Oil. There are also three hand pumps that were drawing Pheasantry Brewery’s PA Pale Ale, Dancing Dragonfly and Black Pheasant, the latter being a good pint. The bouncer was friendly and the service was polite, but I would think that the demographic in here would change towards the younger inhabitants of Lincoln at the weekend.

A peculiar modern place in an historic building, which is a mixture of sports bar, student dive, eating house, nightspot and lord knows what else. There is an industrial ceiling, wall murals, a vast sports screen, lots of neon lights and an upstairs terrace and dance floor. It did at least manage some ale, with Pheasantry Excitra, Ghost Ship and Doom Bar on pump, and in good condition. Still not somewhere I shall be rushing back to however.

This bar was absolutely hammered on a Monday night. There was a quiz on and there must have been about 40 teams of students entered in it. We got some strange looks as we walked in as we were the oldest by at least 30 years. Couldn't really see much of the décor it was so packed. We got served easily enough and my pint was in good nick and Ms CAMRA's red wine was also fine. If we ever call in again it won't be Monday night.
