A large and bustling town pub, recently refurbished after a lengthy closure and quite successfully in a modern way. Lots of TV screens and loud music though, so not somewhere for a peaceful pint although there is a nice terrace out the back which would have had a sea view apart from the vast amusement block behind. A regular was telling us how it used to be an hotel with 3 or 4 separate bars, but it's all knocked through now. The cask ales seem to be surviving, with two from Docks Beers and Old Peculier in reasonable condition.

Like an upmarket Stonegate barn (and it’s a converted O’Neills I see!). A very recent refurb, carpeted (yay!) and painted an awful salmon colour (boo!). Sports TVs and darts. Three cask on, I eschewed the local brew for Theako OP and regretted it, clearly the first one out for a while (NBSS 2.5) and it couldn't compete against Guinness in here. Only one other cask poured over my 20 minute stay on a busy Friday night; not sure how long the ale will survive in unless managed well but it’s worth having a nose for now as you have to walk past it anyway. 5.5
