Brainy Pool left this review about The Phoenix Inn
a great CAMRA approved local until recently, it’s now sadly increasingly run down. Real ale was nowhere to be seen on my most recent visit. It also struggles for custom nowadays with its unpromising location, the days of workers streaming in from the adjacent Pilkington glassworks are long gone. shame.

A cracking pub just off from the town centre. Traditional looking outside and in. 2 rooms with the larger room to your left on entering and the smaller vault room to your right. Very pleasant inside the main room with 3 handpumps on the bar here and another 3, serving different ales, in the other. Therefore you have 5 real ales plus a cider. Well worth seeking out if you are in the area.
