Open plan Greene King pub, none of their beers present on the four pulls, Old Peculiar, one each from local brewers Ainsty and Issac Poad and the ubiquitous Landlord, not in bad nick. Internally some residual walls provide several discreet drinking / seating spaces. Traditional furnishings in wood with some banquette seating, there is a tall table with high chairs opposite the counter. Floored in a mix of carpet, laminate and tiling by the counter, the walls and wainscoting are light and dark grey respectively, decor is mostly old photos and drawings of York. There’s constant music and less obtrusive screens and machines. Like Alan Winfield I preferred this one to the more sedate Fox & Roman.

Refurbished but retaining a pleasant feel, the friendly pub has an emphasis on food but still plenty of room for drinkers. It has 6 handpumps with usually 4 good local ales on offer - Cask Marque listed and very drinkable. Food also very good. Large car park at rear.

The Cross Keys is a decent side pub that is close to York racecourse.
Once inside there is a fairly large single L shaped room with the bar facing, the seating is two picnic tables to the right, plus some normal tables and chairs to the left and bucket type chairs.
There were four real ales on the bar,i had a drink of York Guzzler which went down very well, the other beers were Leeds Best,Copper Dragon Golden Pippin and Taylor Landlord,i thought this was a good choice of real ales.
Background music was playing and food is available,i did'nt see a pool table or darts board but i did'nt have a really good look round.
I prefered this pub to the one just down the road.
