Large 1930s pub on the back way to the racecourse. Basically one biggish room with separation by half walls and pillars into a couple of spaces. Two doors lead into the bar where a tongue and groove faced counter is located to the rear corner, one door also gives access to a rear bar. Four pulls on the counter with a selection from Taylor’s (Landlord of course), White Rat from Ossett, Harvistoun’s Bitter & Twisted and Kirkstall Pale, very drinkable. This pub sells Tunnocks Tea Cakes!

I don't know whether someone read my earlier review, but it has happened! The splendid building has been reinvigorated, with closed-off rooms refurbished and reopened with a modern feel, yet retaining the original features. The main bar is now bright and welcoming, not least by the offering of a good range of ales (and Cask Marque listed too). the large function room still seemed dowdy, presumably waiting its turn, but otherwise this is now an excellent pub and should be a great asset to the local community. Easily wins the "most improved" award.

Massive-looking locals' pub in suburban area One main bar, with a smaller part off to the side and a function room at rear. Sadly something of a run-down feel, and crying out for a sympathetic restoration of the original features. John Smiths Draft on handpump, and that sampled not in the best of condition. Enormous potential, but the size of the car park probably dictates redevelopment. (original rating of 3 removed)
