Finally made it to this pleasant real ale bar, tucked away in a side street just behind the 19th century grandeur of The Crescent. A very low-key entrance means that it’s easy to walk past it, if you’re not careful. There’s only an unassuming sign in the window to tell you that you’re in the right place.
Internally, it’s one opened up space, on two levels. The small corner bar is to the right on entering, reached by climbing several stairs. The photo accompanying the listing is quite deceptive, in that it doesn’t capture the high ceilings and the light and airy feel of the place. It does have the slight ambience of a hotel bar, but not unpleasantly so. The decor may not be to everyone’s taste, but at least the owners have made an effort and the striped wallpaper does have a certain end-of-the-pier jollity about it. One noticeable feature is the large ornamental fireplace, complete with mirror, in the lower seating area. There’s also a fair bit of memorabilia on the high shelves. Seating is varied, with several leather chesterfields, wall mounted benches, plus traditional tables and chairs.
Five real ales on the go when we called: East Coast ‘Alfred Moody’s Mild’, Copper Dragon ‘IPA’, Brown Cow ‘Bravo’, Consett Ale Works ‘Red Dust’ & ‘Cast Iron’. Unfortunately, only had time for one and opted for the ‘Bravo’. Not a stunning beer, but nicely kept, well poured and served cool, not cold. East Coast Brewing Co. beers normally feature quite prominently on the pumps which is hardly surprising as the brewery is only a few hundred yards away. (Founded by David James, ex-Fernandes Brewery.)
A good atmosphere when we called early on Thursday evening. The clientele seemed to be a good mixture of post-beach tourists and locals, well looked after by a friendly, welcoming barman.
Will definitely call again when visiting the town. The fact that it’s only a short stroll to the estimable Ingham’s (fish and chips) is the icing on the cake. A good day at the seaside has just got a whole lot better.

A great place, utter delight to drink in. The interior has some modern decor, which i personally dislike, however, there is enough traditional trappings and a good range of real ale to off-set this. The chap behind the bar was friendly and there was a healthy mixed clientele.
Beer; several real ales (which made the Fosters sign outside a bit hard to fathom) with the JPJ the best of the bitters. IT HAD A MILD - 6%, so i hope that does not mean that the place will be forced to close!
All in all the best place in Filey without a doubt. Its tucked out of the way a bit - but worth finding
