A friendly little pub by the waterside, which benefits from a decked area protected by a glass screen with excellent views out over the estuary. Inside there are a couple of homely rooms round the bar including a dining area. Ales are still one from Great Newsome and Tetley's Cask and seemed in good order. Lovely on a sunny day.

In a spectacular location and with a view, through the glass-screened patio, to justify the pub's existence, this should be a destination pub. My early afternoon Sunday visit may have missed the dinner time rush, but the patio was deserted and there didn't appear to be many in the dining room (which shares the view). My appearance in the public bar doubled the attendance figures. Luckily for me, one of my favourite beers was on the bar, alongside the fallen glory of what was once Leeds Tetleys. Eschewing the Wolverhampton version, I went for the Great Newsome Frothingham Best, a local brew, which went down a treat. The licensee was a friendly type, and I can't put my finger on why the pub is so quiet. Maybe the weather forecast had been off-putting.
