The Reindeer is located in the picturesque quaint village of Hoveringham. Being the only pub in the remote village it sits in front of the local cricket clubs playing pitch and the beer garden o0verlooksm this. The pub has two main rooms as you enter with the main bar on the left and the dining room on the right. This pub is well k known for its food and this makes up a big proportion of its trade, sometimes seeming more like a restaurant with a bar than a pub. The main bar area is set out for drinkers and has recently been renovated and is in more of a modern style with hard wood floors throughout and has a very plain mostly white colour scheme that makes things seem a little plain. Since the refurbishment the bar are looks to have lost a little bit of character. Most drinkers will sit outside when the weather permits as the view of the cricket filed is the main draw in the summer months. There were four real ales available with TT landlord, Thwaites Wainwright, Blue Monkey Brewery’s Marmost and Bombardier Burning Gold. The Marmost set me back £3.40 but unfortunately after a few gulps realised it was slightly sour, dissipating head and pretty awful. This was a real ashamed as the pub does so many other things wright. I should have really took it back but it was just on the brink of condition were the bar man could get funny (but still obviously stale and very tired). Usually this would condemn a pub o=to my no go lost but I am willing to give it another try as it does seem like the sort of palace that in general would keep a decent pint so a re-visit is on the cards I think. Overall a very nice little pub, a bit too restaurant based for my liking but a great space to0 sit outside makes it a great summer pub. Not sure how inviting a place like this would be in the winter though. Aother duff pint will be putting nits score down though.

Food is the main focus here, and the offerings are very well cooked. The service is attentive but the pub has lost the drinking atmosphere ,most noteably as meals are served in both the restaurant, which was virtually empty, as well as in the bar.Scatter cushions have no place in a real bar although if you can find a table it is perfectly OK to just drink in here.Interestingly once the lunchtime meal rush has subsided by 3pm,there was an influx of locals with their dogs intent on a few pints.Great shame that the beer range (as mentioned below) was rather dull although no complaints about the pints of Harvest Pale from Castle Rock that we sank.

A very attractive village pub behind which is the village cricket pitch which allows guzzling to be done whilst watching the men in white. The pub is clearly very food oreintated with the the larger of the two rooms a restaurant and the smaller being the bar although still used for eating. The food was very good and everything which was served looked to be of a similar high quality. The beer selection is less good with four real ales on including Caythorpe One Swallow from the neighbouring village. The trouble is that all of the four were well below 4% so if you're looking for a stronger pint with flavour then you can either go for the Continental selection, of which the Grolsch Wiezen was good, or go elsewhere, which we also did.
