January 2018. We have given up on the Cadland. Another change of staff and the beer quality has fallen off a cliff.

So, over the last 3 years, the Cadland has maintained a good level of service. The management has changed again and the quality of beer and food has not deteriorated. I still go in most weeks, they still have Tiger and Breakspear as house ales, along with Ember Pale, brewed by Black Sheep, which is excellent, especially when they over order and sell it on for £2 a pint. Most weeks, there are 4 guest ales from smaller breweries and they try to cater for all tastes, with a brown beer and a light on on the bar. I will keep going back as its a mile from my house and better than the 2 pubs I walk past to get there. (Just a note, not all the food is microwaved :O)

Alex Conway left this review about The Cadland

The Cadland is a large pub in the nestled in the residential streets of Chillwell village. It is an Ember Inns pub and they have spent a considerable amount renovating it over the last couple of years. The pub has an open plan layout but still has separate drinking areas that you can tell were once their own separate rooms. The bar runs parallel as you enter and stretched quite wide, bending round at the left corner. The decor while being a bit chine like is pretty decent and a dam sight better than the Bluebell down the road with warm carpets and comfy chairs. There is also a nice open fire in the middle of the pub that will be lovely in winter. Beer wise there are two banks of hand pulls on the bar with numerous pumps but some are repeated. The beers I managed to note were bass the usual line up of bass (£3) Brakspear bitter (£2.85)and Everards tiger £3 as well as guest beers Young’s Hummingbird, St Austill Proper Job and Old Rosie Cider as possible some that I failed to note. The Brakspear I though was in really terrific condition and went down very well as did my friends tiger and the prices I thought were really good as well. I don’t usury like Ember inns that much and have not been that impressed with some of their other offerings but this seemed to be definitely one of the better ones. Overall still a bit chain like but it looks like more effort is being put in here than some of their other outlets and it was much comfier and snug that others and the beer I thought was at a much higher level. Is good to see they do have some more interesting guests that rotate often and this is somewhere I would not mind stopping off for a few when in the area. Worth a visit.

E TA left this review about The Cadland Inn

This large corner pub owned by Ember Inns sits in a quiet residential area. It has a large car park and pleasant garden and feels quite welcoming as you approach. The inside is partly open plan but still cosy. The decor is a mix of the naff and the jaded, the carpet has seen better days, but the staff are pleasant and the locals tolerable. There are open fireplaces and dull muzak to give some colour to the four open bar areas, and off-the-shelf food is heated to order by an unseen but obviously competent microwave technician. Three ales on – I had Oxfordshire Ales's Finest, which was most acceptable. There is also a list of forthcoming ales which is a good sign. Overall, it's a good place to spend a few hours and enjoy some decent beer.
