Alex Conway left this review about Squares

Squares is a very large pub/ Bar located on the poultry. I have never liked this place and consider it one of my least favorite drinking spots in the entire city center. Once inside there is one large open plan room with the bar ahead in the front right corner. There are seating areas to the left and right as you enter and with a very large open space in the center that becomes a dance floor in the evenings. There is also an upstairs are that has a lot more seating and its own bar with a balcony from all sides that overlooks the dance floor. The decor is in very cheap generic chain pub style with a mix of hard wooden floors and tatted carpets. In the daytime this is more of a standard crap cheap eatery serving cheap and low quality food and drinks. It is at night time that this places really takes a turn for the worst. Stupidly loud rap and chart music make way for an influx of the worst and scruffiest chavs Nottingham had to offer, think Yates on a particularly bad night but with more neck tattoos and few more missing teeth. The bouncers are useless and this is a heaven for violence and many a fight has been witness in and around this place. The bar has a standard selection of keg beers and spirit deals all served in plastic cups although I believe I found it on an ever so slightly better than average night as they were serving in glass. Amazingly they do in fact sell cask ales and on my visit there was Doombar, Hobgoblin and Pedigree. The pedigree was well priced at £2.80 and was not actually that, not brilliant by a long shot but in an average condition that is only a victory in a place like this. Sadly even with the presence of real ale I would not come back here, it truly is a pit for the dregs of Nottingham and I will be staying well clear from now on.

Alan Winfield left this review about The Square

This pub was originally smaller and called the Exchange and this was a Shipstones tied house.
The Square is a largish one roomed pub just up from the market square after which it was named, once inside there is one large room and the bar faces you as you go in there are different types of seating in here with settes, bench seating and normal tables and chairs making this a fairly comfortable pub to have a drink in during the day.
There are no real ales on here with only keg bitters on the bar so i had a Guinness.
This is a popular pub most times of the day but not that popular with me.
