A classic naff M&B pub - two tiered with spasmodic half-finished refurbs eg a new shiny bar area bar but battered old tables and chewing gum-ridden carpet elsewhere. Two ales, Wainwright and a past-its-best Bass (NBSS 2).

New incarnation of the former reflex 80’s bar so this can only be seen as an improvement no matter how bad it is. Inside is quite comfy but thanks to its chain pub/sizzler branding and prices there is a fair few rough and ready drinkers gather here on a weekend and it gets really busy. On my mid-week afternoon visit it was quite and we got a nice seat but there is really nothing aesthetically pleasing inside and it is quite generic and bland in a sizzler chain sort of way.
I tried a taste of the Harvieston bitter and twisted but this was very clearly off and un drink able so I informed the young girl being the bar who had absolutely no idea what I was talking about and said that she had sold some today, I tried my hardest to simply explain what was wrong and that the beer needed to be taken off but after a while I learned that this message was never really going to sink in so just asked for a taste of the Rev James. Also GONE OFF and un drinkable!! Instead of go through the whole ordeal again I simply smiled and asked for a Guinness (£3.20) that was ok but nothing special. If this place could train their staff in customer service and cellar management there would be a reason to visit here as they do have so good (not great) guest beers sometimes available that would be worth trying g occasionally but as it stands I have no desire to visit here again for a while.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Three Crowns

Modernised pub on two floors, reopened by M&B in 2014 as part of its Sizzling chain. Six handpumps, offering Doom Bar, Greene King IPA, Landlord, Rev James, Everard's Tiger and Ilkley Mary Jane (£2.46) when I visited. OK, but no distinguishing features.
